I designed this maple leaf block for my July 2007 Calendar.  An appliqué that uses just two fabrics and several layout ideas to get you started. 

If you have Electric Quilt (EQ) software, you can download my EQ5 Project File and create your own layouts.  Open the file with EQ5 or EQ6 software.

Here's the layout used for the calendar

Combine positive and negative leaves

Flip some of the blocks around

Reverse a layout for a different look

Create leafy diagonal "stripes"

Use several different fabrics

Make leaf diamonds instead of squares

Use a variety of leaf-coloured fabrics
