Exploding Star Block

Suitable for paper piecing method.  Draft this block on a 6 by 6 grid.  Although I've included the pattern (below) I recommended you draw your own pattern for accuracy, and not rely on this one to this to print to scale.

The block is made of 4 pieced units.
Four 6" units make one 12" quilt block.

Draft a larger 9" unit if you prefer a larger, 18" block

Colour scheme I used:
Black on black tone fabric used for background: # 1, 5, 6, 10, 11, 15, 16, 20, 21
Black and mauve floral print used for star joins:  # 2, 7, 12, 17
The same floral print was used for star points # 18, 19
Medium dark tone on tone (mauve) print for star points # 13, 14 and for centre # 22
Medium tone on tone (light mauve) print for star points # 8, 9
Lightest tone on tone (tan) used for star points # 3, 4

Borders:
Black on black print used for narrow inside border
Different co-ordinating floral print for wider outside border

Block Assembly:
Assemble by paper piecing unit in order shown.  Make 4 units and join to make a complete block, rotating each unit so that the 4 pieces # 22 form a diagonal square in centre of the quilt block.

Quilting:
Accent all background pieces by freehand meandering quilting using multi-coloured thread (I used rayon); also used for center diagonal square (#22's)

The pattern below may not print to scale. Draft your own block for accuracy of size.
